How to Get Private Chef Clients Without Paying a Platform

Booking platforms are a fair way to start, but they keep part of every fee and they keep the client relationship. These are the ways private chefs build a flow of clients that belongs to them.
1. Make referrals easy to act on
Word of mouth is still how most private chefs get booked. The weak point is what happens next: the person who was told about you looks you up. If they find a clear site with your menus, prices and a way to ask for a date, the referral becomes a booking. If they find an Instagram grid and no way to book, many give up.
2. Show up when someone searches your city
People who type "private chef in" a city are ready to hire. To appear, your site needs to say plainly what you do and where, on a page of its own for each service, and you need a complete Google Business Profile. Our guide to SEO for private chefs covers the steps.
3. Turn Instagram followers into inquiries
Followers are not clients. Put your service and your city in your bio, link directly to your booking form, and mix in posts that show the event, not only the plate: the table, the guests, the kitchen you worked in, with the location tagged.
4. Partner with people who meet your clients first
Wedding planners, villa and holiday-rental managers, concierge services, yacht brokers and wine shops all talk to people who need a chef. One good partner can send more work than a year of posting.
5. Ask every happy client for a review
Ask the day after the event, with a direct link. Reviews on your Google profile help you appear in local searches, and the same reviews on your website reassure the next guest.
6. Answer first
A guest who writes at six in the evening is often writing to two or three chefs. The one who answers first, with a real quote, usually wins. An automatic reply and an inquiry form that collects the date, guest count and budget make that possible while you are in service.
7. Give people one place to book
Every method above ends in the same place: someone wants to ask you for a date. A simple site with an inquiry form is what turns the referral, the search, the profile visit and the partner introduction into a client you own. The 18-point website checklist shows what that site needs.
